Genetic Testing

"Genetics" is the study of our DNA (genes), the blueprint of our physical selves. Our genes may predispose us to a host of conditions that when taken into consideration with other factors often help to diagnose, treat or prevent disease. At Barfield Clinic, we selectively use genetic testing to determine an individual's ability to use and metabolize medications.

Medications such as those used to treat depression, anxiety, blood pressure and many others behave differently in each of us. Knowing a person's genetics helps to predict possible effectiveness, dosing or side effects.

This can dramatically decrease the “trial-and-error” method often still utilized by many healthcare providers.

Depending on the type of genetic information needed or condition, we use one of four FDA certified labs: Genomind, Invitae, Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp.
